Some stories from Jessica…
1. Recently I taught CPR to a family with a premature newborn. Within days of being discharged from the hospital this child developed a cold. Later that day mom went to pick him up from the crib and noticed he was blue and not breathing. Immediately she started CPR just like she was taught. EMS came, the child was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. During her child’s admission she sought me out to thank me for making her feel confident that she could perform CPR. Whenever I teach CPR we always hope that parents never have to use the skill…but it is an essential tool to have for ANYONE. Unfortunately for this mama her worst nightmare came true and she had to use CPR on her infant. A couple weeks later her child was discharged and is currently doing GREAT! All because she acted quickly and confidently in that emergency.
2. My sister’s boss and his wife were over seas last year in a remote town. Unfortunately her boss had a heart attack. The town did not have the equivalent of our 911 system. His wife, with the help of some bystanders, was able to perform CPR on him for 45 minutes until the emergency response team arrived. One week later he was talking to my sister on the phone from his hospital room in a nearby city. His only complication was a good amount of pain from all of the broken ribs he suffered during the compressions. Shortly after returning home he returned back to work without any issues.
We hope you’ll join us for our first of many classes with Jessica. Some other possible topics are:
-Healthy Child vs. Sick Child: When to seek medical attention
-Healthy Development/Meeting Milestones: When to seek professional advice.
-Allergies and Feeding Issues
